The sun is essential, it is pure energy and, as such, I believe that it has great healing properties on a mental and emotional level. A healthy doses, sun exposure increases metabolism, strengthens the immune system, activates the functioning of certain enzymes, reduces stress, improves mood and helps us to synthesize vitamin D.

The benefits of the sun are infinite so we should not be afraid of it but we must be careful not to overexpose ourselves, otherwise we will experience negative repercussions. The sun is an extractor, that is, it draws toxicity to the surface of the skin. The more toxic your body and your eating style are, the more damaging the effects of the sun will be.

So, in addition to taking the usual precautions when exposing yourself, I propose some foods that if we eat during or after sunbathing will keep us hydrated, young and handsome.

  1. Green leafy vegetables : spinach, chard, lettuce, broccoli, celery, artichokes, parsley or coriander are optimal for preventing and repairing sun damage. They will provide us with a good amount of easily absorbable minerals, antioxidants, vitamins and other nutrients, such as those that we can find in a good juice or green smoothie.
  2. Red and orange fruits : watermelons, papayas, apricots, grapefruits, tomatoes … all of them full of lycopene, an antioxidant that promotes the skin’s natural defenses against free radicals. These fruits are an excellent, refreshing and hydrating snack.
  3. Dark chocolate : cocoa nuts can reduce your skin’s sensitivity to the sun’s rays. So look for a chocolate chip that contains a high% cocoa or use raw cocoa powder in your vegetable milks or green smoothies or prepare some delicious energy balls including this superfood.
  4. Seeds : flax, chia and hemp seeds are rich in essential fatty acids, or also the well-known omega 6 and omega 3. These help us prevent burns and reduce inflammation. They also provide us with easily assimilated amino acids and antioxidants that will help us repair the damage caused to skin cells.
  5. Tea : 1 or 2 cups of tea a day will heal the skin inside giving it the ability to soften previous damage caused by the sun. Always choose organic and natural infusions or decaffeinated teas, without artificial aromas.

Also, keep in mind that people who eat a diet high in fat tend to burn more easily. Vegetable oils go rancid easily. You will see that increasing the consumption of raw foods in your diet will change the tanning process of your skin.

If you have fair skin or burn easily in the sun, increase your water intake. We lose more water when we are in the sun and our body will need extra fluid when it is repairing the skin of any burns. The most effective and natural remedy for burns will be the application of aloe vera gel that has anti-inflammatory and cooling properties.

And to all these, what other tricks would you add to the list of recommendations?
